Chris Atkinson-de Garis received a Diploma of Art (Furniture Design) from the School of Wood (Forest Heritage Centre, Dwellingup) in 1999 and graduated from Curtin University in 2004. Since then he has exhibited in New Works. New Faces Perth Galleries, Subiaco, and in Recent Graduates at the Church Gallery, Claremont , WA
His painstakingly stitched re-creations of moths reflect his delight in their fragility and fascination with, what he calls, their melancholy silence.
Superb craftsmanship combined with a remarkable capacity to capture the spirit of the natural world and to infuse it with a poetic sensibility, link this Western Australian artist with Japanese master woodblock print artists and netsuke carvers of the last three centuries.
