Brenda Ridgewell's work explores the inimate space on the human body. The space reserved for a lover or a child.
Her exploration of these spaces on the human body has led to a group of work that touches and moves away from the body, exploring the space both on and beyond the body surface.
She has used precious and semi precious materials to reflect the preciousness and tenacity of life.
Works are developed through a system of units constructed in differing manners to develop forms that interact with the space of the body. The repititive element is a reminder of the repitition within our lives and body; the repitition that makes us all the same but not quite the same. The work is often articulated to allow it to move with or against the body.

Brenda Ridgewell is the Director of Jewellery and 3D Design at Curtin University, Western Australia, and has been the recipient of many prestigious awards. She has exhibited her work throughout Australia, as well as in the USA, Japan and the United Kingdom. Although she has exhibited widely over the years, her exhibition at Gallery East in February 2006 is her first solo exhibition in Western Australia since 1996 and, as such, is of considerable significance,
