Deborah writes: Leaves of Absence explores the virtual absence of Chinese women from the Australian gold rushes. The leaves were sourced at the Victorian Goldfields town of Newstead. Each silhouette represents a memory of the women the Chinese miners were forced to leave behind, and in some cases would never see again.
