The night movements of scouting parties in the Manchurian campaign provided many artists with the opportunity to create beautiful night landscapes. Artistic and narrative interests are united in this print, in which Seizō captures the icy stillness of the Manchurian winter night. The full moon lights a landscape created without line in tones of white, grey, and black. The horses and their riders cast shadows on the icy ground and snow-covered rocks.
This composition is so beautifully designed that one would expect to find other evidence of this artistic personality.
