Dramatic scene of a Japanese torpedo boat during a naval battle in the Sino-Japanese War. At left, in choppy waters, sailors celebrate sinking the Chinese warship Dingyuan. An officer stands at the rear of the ship while his crew takes celebratory drinks. Waves crash against the side of the ship, sending up a spray of white foam. Ships appear in dark silhouette in the background as explosions flare in the night sky. An unusual close-up image of sailors at work in the heat of battle. A great design for a naval historian.

Dingyuan – armoured flagship of the Chinese navy built in 1880s.
