Fascinating triptych depicting victory celebrations at Ueno Park, Tokyo during the Sino-Japanese War. The scene at left seems to show a re-enactment of the sinking of a Chinese Ship in Shinobazu Pond, with troops and spectators lining the horse racing track and cheering as they watch the vessel sinking into the water, smoke and flames rising into the dark night sky. At right, crowds gather around a cart piled with guns and straw-wrapped bales. One man holds a white flag with writing on it, the pole topped with what looks like a severed head. Red paper lanterns are strung on lines from the trees, and fluttering banners and flags add a lively air. An intriguing historic image.
