Dramatic scene of Japanese Sergeant Kawasaki Iseo swimming back across the Taedong (Taidong) River from spying on the Chinese during the Sino-Japanese War. He clenches the blade of his sword between his teeth as he makes his way through the swiftly moving current, small white-capped foam splashing up around his body. Fire from the enemy torches can be seen on the far shore, while Japanese soldiers cheer his return. After successfully reconnoitring the enemy’s position, Kawasaki stole a boat and returned across the river.
A fascinating subject, beautifully drawn.
