Utagawa Kunisada II 1823-1880

Princess Yaegaki and Foxfires. Princess Yaegaki holding a magic war helmet intended for her lover, Takeda Katsuyori (left) before he was to go into battle. Prevented from delivering the helmet by a huge lake, she prayed to the god of the Suwa Shrine who sent a white fox spirit to protect her on her journey.
