Previously working with predominantly raw industrial materials such as steel, wood and concrete, his work continues to explore notions of craftsmanship, utility and physical labour. These themes are often used to investigate the vulnerabilities and variable functions of materials.
This new body of work explores the relationship between urban settlement and how natural space is manufactured, valued and interpreted in this setting. The collection of structures is a result of Neil's personal understandings of the landscape and the inherent uncertainties that surround its depiction. The use of wool is also central to this exploration due to its ability to insulate and provide comfort, in addition to its economic and physical association with the land.
